Ziv Scherman

Food & Beverage Director

Ziv Scherman is the Food & Beverage Director at Blue Jay Bistro, a seasonally driven restaurant celebrating the best of North Carolina ingredients in the small lakeside town of Littleton, NC.

Scherman began his hospitality career at a restaurant in Norman, OK, where he found that he enjoyed the camaraderie of his team and gained experience with many front-of-house positions. He went on to study at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, where he learned the necessary skills for a successful career in the hospitality industry.

Upon graduating from Cornell, Scherman began his career at the distinguished Chevy Chase Club in Maryland, where he honed his restaurant management skills in both a high-volume casual outlet and a fine dining restaurant. He continued working in country clubs in Maryland and then Texas for the next 11 years, gaining experience with restaurant management, banquet operations, events, marketing, and facility upgrades. Scherman also earned the title of Certified Club Manager from the Club Managers Association of America in 2010. In 2014, he headed to the Southeast and continued working in both country clubs and a luxury continuing care retirement community in North Carolina.

In 2021, Scherman was drawn back to working in restaurants when he discovered Blue Jay Bistro and the overall Littleton, NC revitalization project, orchestrated by owners Deb and Ed Fitts. He was excited to find new ways to use his passions for building relationships with the local community, getting involved, and growing together.

As Food & Beverage Director, Scherman places a heavy emphasis on the beverage program, procuring the wine list and creating cocktails to pair with Blue Jay Bistro’s seasonally driven menu. He works closely with the team to create cocktails from ingredients that are featured in dishes on the current menu as well as ingredients that elevate the flavors of those dishes. The result is a well-curated array of classically inspired cocktails and approachable wines.

Scherman has quickly become a familiar face around Littleton, known for his signature handlebar mustache that greets you with a warm smile at Blue Jay Bistro. Outside of work, he enjoys working on house projects, keeping tabs on a variety of sports teams, puzzling, and trying to catch some of the productions at the newly renovated Lakeland Cultural Arts Center.
